Hello everyone,
I’m happy to announce the release of Got Done Version 1.3, an update that improves your habit tracking possibilities. With this version, I’ve placed a significant focus on enhancing the interaction between habits and their targets. Additionally, I’ve introduced a range of thoughtful improvements and features to further elevate the user experience.
Let’s dive into what changed with this update.
A Focus on Habits: Elevating Min and Ideal Target Interactions
Habits are at the core of what Got Done aims to support. With Version 1.3, we’ve improving how you track and achieve your habit goals by introducing differentiated targets and an enhanced user experience for interacting with them.
Understanding Min and Ideal Targets
For many of us, habits aren’t just about doing something—it’s about doing enough to feel accomplished while aiming for an ideal outcome. With this update, you can now define a minimum target and an ideal target for each habit. For example:
- Minimum Target: The absolute minimum you want to achieve to stay on track.
- Ideal Target: The goal you’d ideally like to hit, representing peak performance.
This dual-target system allows for more nuanced habit tracking and helps you celebrate progress even if you don’t always hit your ideal goal. The goal is still marked as done if you hit your minimum target, ensuring you’re not penalized for missing your ideal workout or reading goal.
New Habit Completion Workflow
When you complete a habit that has both a minimum and an ideal target, you’ll now be greeted with a ** input screen**. This screen lets you quickly and intuitively log your progress. Did you just barely meet the minimum target, or did you exceed your ideal? For example, if your habit is to drink water, you can log whether you drank the minimum amount, hit your hydration goal, or went above and beyond. Got Done makes it easy to capture that information intuitively.
Completion Colors: A Visual Celebration of Progress
To make habit tracking more engaging, we’ve introduced habit completion colors that give instant visual feedback:
- Gold: When you hit or exceeded your ideal target.
- Green: When you did the habit.
These colors now appear in various parts of the app, including the habit detail view and daily habit progress. By visually distinguishing levels of success, these colors provide an instant sense of accomplishment or an opportunity for self-reflection. This design not only motivates users to push for gold but also reinforces consistency by celebrating progress, no matter the scale.
Last 10 Weeks Habit Detail View
Another exciting addition is the ability to view the last 10 weeks of progress for each habit. This new grid-based interface gives you an at-a-glance overview of how consistently you’ve been meeting your targets. You can even update past days directly from this view, making it easy to ensure your tracking remains accurate.
Other Notable Improvements
While the focus of Version 1.3 was on improving habit tracking, we’ve also added several other features and enhancements to refine the overall experience:
Data Export
Got Done now supports data export as text, making it simple to back up your data or analyze it outside of the app. Whether you want to reflect on your accomplishments or share your progress, this new feature has you covered.
Overdue Badge for Tasks
Tasks that are overdue by more than three days now display an Overdue badge on the task list, giving you a clear visual reminder to prioritize those items.
Color Adjustments
As part of this update, we’ve refined the app’s color palette to improve readability and aesthetics. Notably, the green color has been darkened in light mode for better contrast.
Why These Changes Matter
Habit tracking isn’t just about recording actions—it’s about creating a system that encourages growth and celebrates progress. With the enhancements in Version 1.3, Got Done is better equipped to help you:
- Set meaningful goals: The new min and ideal target system provides structure without being overly rigid.
- Track progress intuitively: The 10-week habit view and completion colors give you immediate insights.
- Stay motivated: Visual feedback and thoughtful design choices create an engaging experience.
These updates reflect my commitment to making Got Done a tool that adapts to your needs while helping you stay consistent and motivated.
What’s Next?
Version 1.3 is a significant milestone, but it’s far from the end of Got Done’s journey. I’m already working on the next update, which will introduce even more exciting features, including:
- Widgets: Quickly view your progress and habits right from your home screen.
- Custom Tags and Filters: Organize and prioritize tasks and habits in new ways.
- Compact Mode: A streamlined interface for users who prefer a minimalist view.
Your Feedback Shapes Got Done
As always, your input is invaluable. Got Done has grown into what it is today thanks to the suggestions, ideas, and feedback from its amazing community of users. I’d love to hear your thoughts on Version 1.3:
